Spice of Engg contd............

The great phase of engg life........... practicals and submissions again..............Now what kind of engineers are we?Our viva voce goes in this way......proff asks few questions 1 or 2 max then ends up asking why do u ppl dont have the inquisitiveness to know simple stuffs?....what do u do all through the semester? sometimes i feel like talking all the great deeds we did in our semester there is a lot to talk about most of them are productive but yeah it wont make any difference to him at least ;he wont understand generation gap i think so..........Now in the entire viva we will be swinging our heads like pendulum ultimately we blurt out saying sir no time to study simultaneoulsy 3-4 things its difficult to manage things.......hahaha done with ..as soon as we come outside ppl with prying eyes kaisa hua???I hate to answer this the most i know i havent answered in a decent still they ask whats the answer for that .I always hoped that this being my penultimate submissions and pracs i just hoped things ll be cool nothing to worry ...........but reality is something different.Anyways i am enjoying this ...one night stand seems to have taught me a lot....especially to keep my cool in any kind of situation....well thats the optimistic view...........Anyways things have been going i just wanna move in my own way..........expecting a lot from life and being optimistic every other moment

The ORKUT mania............

31,795,208 now guess what is the significance of this number...................This was the total no of Orkut users as of November 7, 2006 this mania hasnt left our campus too.....

Google has always been a host to innovative concepts........run by three some awesome Sergey brin larry page...ERIC schmidt....... has been always on a lead.....Well getting back to Orkut..It seems that Orkut has hit our SVNIT campus with great success...The usual hello mesasages ...Hi wazzup various permutations on that..Guys checking their scrapbook more often than anything just to find any new scrap...especially one from a gal ..the new friend request...a new community..seems to fascinate the svnit public a lot..Thanks to our inter hostel lan and the net connectivity that orkut has gained such great popularity..out here....Whatever it might be ppl always don't forget to log on to orkut..the first thing ppl do as the chord strikes 7pm is to open Mozilla logon to orkut......Seems to be a great stress buster...Yeah it does help to get to meet ur good old school mates..In my case yes thanks to orkut i got to meet them..I can have the satisfaction of being in touch with them..these communities are like icing on a cake...u get to have the feel of a forum...
Well lots to write on this Orkut..Well just think abt the person who must have come up with this idea..a truely genious fellow indeed.....orkut has been named after its creator, Google employee Orkut Büyükkökten. Similar to Friendster and MySpace, orkut goes a step further by permitting the creation of easy-to-setup simple forums (called "communities") of users. Until recently, orkut was invitation only, but it now permits users to create accounts without an invitation.HEy thats all abt that i ll continue with it soon

The daffodils

Well as my diwali vacations are about to get over i thought of adding another post to my blog!!This time its abt my favourite poem !!Daffodils by William Wordsworth !!I still remember the way our dear teacher Mr Mark D souza happen to recite the poem,focussing on all the intricate details of the poem!!He made us feel the poem as one beautiful song which left a lasting impression in our mind!!He was more than a teacher to all of us!!The reminiscence of the good old school days makes me nostalgic!!

Now something abt the great literary exponent William Wordsworth. Wordsworth's famous poem about daffodils was composed in 1804, two years after he saw the flowers walking by Ullswater on a stormy day with Dorothy.His inspiration for the poem came from an account written by Dorothy. In her journal entry for 15th April 1802 she describes how the daffodils:tossed and reeled and danced, and seemed as if they verily laughed with the wind, that blew upon them over the lake;Wordsworth published his poem, 'I wandered lonely as a Cloud' , in 1807. He later altered it, and his second version, published in 1815, is the one widely known today.

I wandered lonely as a Cloud
That floats on high o'er Vales and Hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:-
A poet could not but be gay
In such a jocund company:

And dances with the Daffodils.

Why only MBA???

Post Engineering, all Engineering students come at crossroads, where they have to make a choice – a choice that defines their career for the rest of their lives: to choose one amongst the options of a job, management or M.Tech, MS. The four most widely used options are management, M.Tech, M.S, MBA or a job. Given the current situation in India, most of the engineering colleges are not able to give a 100% placement, which results candidate making a choice between management, M.S and M. Tech. This article is about choosing the option of post graduation in a technical field. In this article I will try to put some thoughts of mine and some inferences I have made in this regard.

Why does one choose CAT over post graduation in technical field (M.Tech or M.S) or vice versa? To quote the Bible, “A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things”. Most of the students choose management because they perceive that a management person makes more money than a research person. This might have been true in the past. But now that companies like Motorola and Honda are beginning to outsource their R&D to India, the demand for Research oriented people is on the rise. "Virtually every single global IT major is rapidly expanding its footprint into India," says Sunil Mehta, vice president, Nasscom. As of now, 100 Fortune 500 companies - including Delphi, Eli Lilly, General Electric, Hewlett Packard, DaimlerChrysler and others - have put up R&D facilities in India over the past five years. Considering the scenario, post graduation in technical field be it M.Tech or M.S is no longer the underdog. And the number of students giving GATE or GRE has been increasing every year.

One other thing which is observed is the wild rush. If you happen to ask an Engineering student why he or she is preparing for M.B.A the answer is generally friends around me are going for it, Technical stuffs are not meant for me! If this is the situation the day is not far when all the engineering colleges around will be reduced to mere graduating schools where all the students graduating from school invariably end up as M.B.A! It is disheartening to find students graduating from premier technical institutes aiming for management, it is fine if one is seriously influenced by management and thinks that he is better of with management considering his aptitude and work skills but I definitely don’t understand the wild rush. How can a person take such an important decision in his career not even giving a thought over his or her performance in the past, his achievements, things which have fascinated him the most! This is for sure the mindset of the students is greatly influenced by college environment and the present situation is quite well known.

This can only be changed by the students which form the intellectual capital of an institute.

Before summing up I would like to pose some questions

How many nobel laureates are of Indian origin? Do you know how many patents have been filed from Indian origin people? Why our country still lags behind as far as technological exposure is concerned as compared to countries like U.S ,Japan?Why our country still lags in defense research sector? Why is our nation taking so much of time in coming up with an advanced Light combat Aircraft? Why is it taking so much to bring another green revolution? Well the answer for all the above questions is one and the same the lack of people with strong technical expertise.

Being a part of such a premier institute if you wish to do something about this then please do take interest in technical activities keep yourself updated ,naturally one will be fascinated about technical field .Then definitely we will be able to do something good to the nation some day and make our nation proud about it!!

Freshers at NIT-Surat (the odd sem)

hi there i m back!!!this time i wud like to go back to my first year at NIT-Surat.The best part of our college is our magnificient gate.Believe me i was actually amazed to pass by,thought that if college entrance is so good the college basic infra must be amazing but was shocked to pass by those dilapitated structure!!It took me abt a month or so to realize that college is not all abt buildings or so ,it is actually the students the ppl out there which make a college good or bad!!Right now i dont have any complaints against it!!!THanks to my seniors who made me realise what exactly u must look at the college!!I will talk abt the experience which made me think like that!!
Sailing through the august of 2003 we were accomodated in staff quarters of our college(NIT-Surat) ,it seemed to us as if the building was locked off for years and we were supposed to live over there for a year or so,the hostel office had told us that we will be shifted to the newly built hostel soon after the completion of it..We knew that was just to console our anxious parents!!! ANyways the first few days were horrible used to juggle for bathroom irregular water timings........Finally the best part of all that was the peacocks and peahens which always used to roam around our block,and the girls hostel tooooo...So started our college with all the doldrums internals were fast approaching ever1 of us started slogging like anything,,always used to aim at getting centpercent over the years this has died out for sure..thats the fact.Anyways college progressed our ragging was carried out so the transition began from nerds(childish behaviour) to mature ppl.. getting intro's of gals ,facing an embarrsing situation taught us a lot!!!i still remember our batchmates in staff qaurters used to sit in a room and discuss abt the ragging what kind of deed we ppl did ,talking abt the gals and fundoo seniors and their achievements..so went on our semester!!!
Talking abt the ragging the topmost priority was to know things abt our ppl ,we were supposed to keep every info of our asso mates at our finger tips that was a mamoth task indeed!!! NDTV what does it stand for?who is the present CMD of BSNL?how many runs did sachin score in the last match ?who is the highest scorer from indian side?what does epl stand for?what abt the literary personalities from karnataka?what is the best thing from ur city?...the list is long these were the things nikhil harsha sriram raghu putti HITESH bharath...all of the KSA seniors in that case always used to ask..it was then i had realised how imp these things are !!!never ever in the past i had bothered abt these!!If i m anything today thanks to these ppl!! there are so many other seniors too pls dont mind if i havent mentioned ur name here u will always be remembered by me!!there are loads of things i can talk at length abt it!!as of now i will try to cut it short!!
Now on the teachers part one person who has left evrlasting impression on my mind is Prof B.B.Mistry the engineering mechanics proff always used to bring a new book to our class and used to tell us something good abt it!!He had an innovative and amazing method of teaching,used to wait for his class like anything!!He always used to address as student members !!i still remember the first internal exam papers were being distributed and he was individual feedback and i had manged to get 10/10 that is one of the most cherished moment of my life at NIT-Surat.Well then we had a usual mix of some great and some not so good lecturers,the prob being with their teaching style!!anyways that was till the freshers party kashish 03!!we bunked abt 2 weeks and got the whole month !!!we got thrashed so badly for that by our seniors for making such a silly decisionand manged to bunk the kashish too and got a whole month vacations!!

My experiments with blogging!!!

This is the first time i have started writing in a blog!!Myself Shripad ,well ppl call me by diff names sripeee, pandu....there are other one's too but arent worth mentioning.Well this being the last year of mine in this college(NIT-Surat) thought of writing something abt myself in this blog.Inspired by so many great bloggers (many of my seniors and few of my jrs from NIT-Surat).I thought it would be a great a thing to give it a try.I hope so it would be a unique experience.
Well this being the first post of mine i would like to give a small intro of myself.The very mention of the word intro makes me nostalgic,and the experience of ragging comes into picture wheren we were supposed to give an introduction to senior ,i think i might have given my intro atleast abt 300 times!!!!Well myself presenty in the 7th sem of Electronics Engineering of the first batch of B.TECH from NIT-Surat.The batch which will be graduating with gpa's....ok thats abt myself.Presently placed in DELPHI TCI,Bangalore!!Earlier was placed in TCS!!!
Abt my experience out here in the college i have thought of writing abt it in phase.There are lot of things which i exepect to be beneficial to ppl around which my great seniors had told me abt before leaving this college,i would luv to pass on carrying on the same tradition!!Well ppl thats my first blog i wud be updating my blog soon ..so ppl thats shripad signing out frm here!!!
